PARIS, April 2007: CANADA A HIT WITH IMMIGRANTS Canada is the third choice of immigrants after the United States and Great Britain. According to a report by the Paris-based Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development, one of every five immigrants applying to live in the world's richest countries chooses Canada. Last year, Canada accepted more than 254,000 immigrants. Canada has a low birth rate and is increasingly counting on immigration to increase its population. With 33 million inhabitants in Canada, immigrants now represent one of every five Canadians.
